Pathways, Transitions and Working Across Boundaries: Te Ara Whakamana 2016
Te Ara Whakamana is New Zealand's largest forum dedicated to education and employment pathways and transitions. Now in its sixth year, this event brings together educators from both secondary and tertiary sectors, industry representatives, policymakers, and researchers to share good ideas and practices, and to be challenged by different perspectives. The forum's goal is to support learning environments that enable learners to make decisions and progress successfully through education and on into high-quality careers.
Co-hosted by Ako Aotearoa and the Centre for Studies in Multiple Pathways at MIT, this year's forum will have a significant focus on encouraging and supporting changes to practice. Plenary and concurrent sessions will showcase current examples of innovative work, discuss tools that support both practitioners and learners, and identify how we can effectively share successes across the boundaries of school, tertiary education, and the workplace.
Speakers and programme
Plenary and concurrent sessions to be included in this year's programme will cover a range of topics including:
- Practical examples of using Vocational Pathways to support learner success.
- Tools to support young peoples' thinking about career development.
- Using the curriculum to support effective transitions.
- Methods for recording evidence of core competencies.
- Lessons from Māori and Pacific Trade Trading experiences.
- How to work across sectoral boundaries.
A full programme will be available by late March.
Venue
Rydges Hotel, 75 Featherston Street, Wellington.
The Rydges is centrally located in Wellington's CBD and is minutes from the Wellington waterfront.

The event will be run over two days from 28 June to 29 June as follows:
Day 1 - Tuesday 28
The conference runs from 9:15am - 4:30pm. A networking function will be held from 4:30pm – 6:00pm.
Registration opens at 8.15am. Coffee and tea will be available from this time.
Day 2 - Wednesday 29
The conference runs from 9:15am – 4:15pm
Coffee and tea will be available from 8:30am .
